Simone Biles

Simone Arianne Biles (/sI’moUn ‘baI@lzSimone Arianne Biles (born March 14, 1997; 4) is an American artistic gymnast. She tied Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals she won in American gymnastics, and is currently the ninth most. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she is the most accomplished gymnast ever to compete at the Gymnastics World Championships. She is considered by numerous sources to be the greatest gymnast ever. Joe Biden awarded Biles the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022. In the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Biles took home individual gold medals for the all-around, vault, and floor; bronze medals on balance beam and gold with the United States team, dubbed the "Final Five".At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where Biles was predicted to claim at minimum four of the six gold medals, she withdrew from the majority of the contest because of her issues with "the twisties" and the temporary loss of balance awareness. Biles won an Olympic silver medal for the US team, as well as a bronze medal in the balance beam. The team was highly praised for her partial withdrawal, determination and focus on safety, mental and physical health. She is also a five time World all-around champion (2013-15 and 2018-19) and five times World floor exercise champion (2013)-2015 and 2018-2019) Three times World balance beam champion (2014)-2015, 2019) Two times World vault champion (2018), and was part of the gold-winning American teams in all four World Artistic Gymnastics Championships (2014 2015, 2014, 2018, 2018 and 2019). She has also been three-time World silver medalist (2013 and 2014 on vault, and 2018 on uneven bars) and three-time World bronze medalist (2015 on vault, 2013 and 2018 on balance beam). Biles is the World's most accomplished gymnast (25) and the World's most gold-medalized (19). She has just surpassed Vitaly Scherbo, who holds the record for the most World medals. Biles won both 24th and 25th gold medals at the 2019 Stuttgart competition. [8] Biles is the only female gymnast who has won the most World all around titles (5). She is the sixth female to receive an individual all-around title at the Olympics and World Championships. She is the tenth female gymnast and the first American female gymnast to receive the World medal on every event, and the first female gymnast since Daniela Silivas in 1988 to achieve a medal at every event in a single Olympic Games or World Championships, having accomplished this feat at the 2018 World Championships in Doha. Biles was the third of out of four siblings. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14 1997. The four children were all put in foster care. In 2000, Biles' maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles began temporarily caring for Shanon's children in the northern Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, after finding out that his grandchildren been in foster care. In 2003, the Biles family had officially adopted Simone and her younger sister Adria. Ron's sister Shanon, Shanon’s aunt Harriet and Harriet adopted their two oldest children.
