Carey is a former top model in fashion who measured at nearly 5'10" she was a favorite of American fashion designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was the world-renowned geologist, who in 1979 was named Scientist of the Year in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey traveled all over because of her father's work. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began to model on the side. It caught the attention of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. The model moved to France in 1980 and lived for a short time in Paris as well as Bordeaux prior to deciding to move back in New York to continue with her education at college and build a modeling career. She soon began being featured on the cover of Vogue, Glamour, etc. She studied full-time in New York University, obtaining her degree in literature in between assignments as a model. After a while she began to develop an interest in acting. She was a student at Neighborhood Playhouse New York. The actress had a tiny part of Club Paradise with Robin Williams, in 1986. When she is not working, she enjoys skiing and windsurfing, climbing up rocks as well as whitewater rafting.
